Playing for colts

Harpenden Colts caters for all players in Harpenden and the surrounding district who are keen on football.  We provide football for players of all abilities – the only requirements are enthusiasm and a desire to improve.

Frequently asked questions

Boys play matches on Sunday mornings. Most of the younger boys’ squads train on Saturday mornings and older squads train midweek evenings. Girls play matches on Saturday mornings and most squads train on weekday evenings.

Registration fee for season 2020/21 is £170 (assistance is available for those in financial hardship).

We provide a Harpenden Colts shirt, shorts and socks as part of the subscription fee. Each season we alternate between the home kit and the away kit. Harpenden Colts has an online Nike club shop selling other Colts branded kit but this is not compulsory. Players will NOT be allowed to train or play without shin pads and water bottles.

Colts is a non-profit organisation run almost exclusively by volunteers. Your child will be coached by mums and dads of children in the year group who have volunteered to help. Our volunteer coaches in the U7 year group in the boys’ and girls’ sections are supported by a professional coach.

The season starts early in September and final training is typically early May.  We will usually not organise training on bank holiday weekends but otherwise, subject to weather, we train / play throughout the season.

Yes! We would encourage any parent who wishes to coach to get involved. Colts is run on an entirely voluntary basis so the success of each year group depends on the dedication of the parents who volunteer to help. No previous coaching experience is required and initially any new coach would be paired with an experienced coach for each session to help them integrate with the group. Colts encourages coaches to participate in FA coaching courses and the club will provide funding for some of these. All coaches will be DBS (formerly CRB) checked.

Registration

The club operates waitlists across all boys’ section year groups and most of the girls’ year groups. If your child would like to play for Colts, in the first instance please register by joining the club’s waitlist.

Our existing players need to re-register every season. Players will be invited to do so during the close season, between May and July. The club’s membership database, registration process and subs payments are managed using the LoveAdmin system. Full details will be provided in an email invitation to register or re-register at the appropriate time.

The standard annual subscription (subs) payment for season 2020/21 was £170. This included a full Nike kit comprising a shirt, shorts and socks. Financial assistance is available for families who cannot afford the full subs amount, or who need a longer period over which to pay it.
