Former Colts Chair Richard Bandell recently received an award from Harpenden Town Council Mayor Councillor Fiona Gaskell. The award was in recognition of his efforts and expertise working on the Rothamsted 3G pitch project.
Everyone at Harpenden Colts would like to thank Richard for his time, energy and perseverance. The Club is extremely proud to call the £1.2 million facility in Rothamsted Park our home and look forward to working with Harpenden Town Council and Harpenden Town Football Club to maximise its usage and maintain the high-quality facility for the benefit of the Harpenden’s young people and wider community.
Here are Richard’s thoughts following the award ceremony..
“It is an honour to accept this Award, which really belongs to all the amazing people who dedicated so much time over many years to make the Rothamsted pitch a reality. Everyone at Harpenden Colts has in someway contributed to making the club what it is today. With over 1,500 players in well over 100 squads, Colts has been able to bring together the myriad of partners necessary to secure the Football Foundation funding and local authority backing that made the project viable. There are too many people to mention them all by name, but I would particularly like to thank the following people:
Carl Cheevers and Sarah Brimley of Harpenden Town Council; Roman Motyczak of Harpenden Town FC; Steve Maker of Hertfordshire FA; and all the members of the Colts FMC. Your constant and patient support made the whole thing possible, and everyone in the Club can feel very proud to have contributed to the delivery of an outstanding community facility that will benefit many thousands of people in the years ahead in Harpenden.”
The new facility has already allowed Harpenden Colts to move the training for all its 1500 members back to Harpenden and offer weekly football to a further 300+ young people with a particular focus on growing the number of local girls who play football on a regular basis.
