Harpenden Colts were thrilled to host the first Year 7 Girls Inter Schools Tournament at Roundwood Park School on the 15th November. Over 40 girls participated from three local schools: Roundwood Park, Katherine Warington and Queenswood.
The standard of play was really high and the competition was a close one. In the end Roundwood’s first team and Queenswood reached the final. After two previous 0-0 results from these teams it was always going to be close, but in the end Roundwood scored a winning goal with just moments left of play.
All the girls had a brilliant time and received a medal for competing. The mayor of Harpenden, Councillor Paul Cousin, awarded the winning captain with a trophy and congratulated the girls on their efforts.
Emma Wright from the Roundwood team said “It was really good to be able to play against other schools in a really fun tournament. It’s great Harpenden Colts and the schools that played are helping support girls’ football.”
Unfortunately Covid meant we had some last minute cancellations from schools, but we’re still proud to be promoting football to all girls in the area. The tournament is going to be an annual event, and it is hoped that more local schools will be able to participate next year.
